CP guarantees to “act immediately” with service providers when there are salary arrears

CP guaranteed this Tuesday that it will “act immediately” with service providers when it becomes aware that there are salary arrears , noting that it does not want to harm suppliers because this also harms the company .

“I would like to clarify that the companies that bid for this service knew that there were outstanding amounts. We are always careful to communicate this information. If we were harming the suppliers, we would be harming the company”, stated the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CP — Comboios de Portugal, Pedro Moreira, who was speaking at a joint hearing with the parliamentary committees for Economy and Labour, following a request from the parliamentary group of the Left Bloc (BE).

On the other hand, he explained that CP checks the financial situation of the companies with which it enters into contracts , in particular whether there are debts to the Tax Authority or Social Security.

Pedro Moreira said that CP has “dozens or hundreds” of contracts with service providers and that problems have only been seen in a small portion of them.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of CP also assured that the company “acts immediately” with service providers when there are salary arrears, specifying that this was what it did in the case of Highpoint .

Highpoint workers called a strike for January 31 and February 1 to denounce the practice of paying salaries late, but it was called off after the company paid January's salaries.

“When there are late payments, we are immediately aware of it because we contact the workers on a daily basis and we take immediate action with the companies. That is what happened here, as soon as we were aware of it,” he reiterated.

Highpoint has around 470 employees, but not all of them work for CP.
